There are two key ways to change your name on Google Meet, one way is to change your name from within your Gmail account, and the other is by simpler joining the Google Meet from a different incognito browser window. Lets walk through both of these options:

You can update your name on Google Meet by changing your name settings from withing Gmail. But keep in mind that by changing your name here, it will also change how your name is displayed when you send emails to people via Gmail.

To change your name in Gmail simply open Gmail in a new browser tab, click your profile icon in the top right hand corner, and then select 'Manage your Google Account'.

From there, select the 'Personal info' menu option from the left hand side. Here you will now see your 'Basic info' which includes your name. This is the name that Google Meet uses as your display name. Click the name field, and then select the edit button to edit your name.

Once your name is edited here, it will automatically be updated as your name on Google Meet. You can come back to your Gmail settings at any time and change it back to what you had previously.

How to change name on Google Meet using an incognito browser

A much simpler, and lesser known way to change your name on Google Meet is by using an incognito browser. By opening and joining a Google Meet via an incognito browser, Google will prompt you to provide a name to be used within the Meet. This allows you to set your name to whatever you want, without having to update your Gmail name settings!

To open an incognito browser you can simply press 'cmd/cntrl + shift + n' or simply in your tool bar go to File, and click 'New incognito window'. Once the incognito window is open simply paste the Google Meet URL you would like to join into the URL bar and hit enter.

At this point you may be prompted to allow access to your camera and microphone – this is common as Google doesn't recognize you or your settings within an incognito browser. You can simply hit allow for these prompts.

You will now see an input field on the right side of your screen which is prompting you to enter a name to join the Meet. This is your opportunity to change your name on Google Meet to anything you want. Simply enter text here and select the 'Ask to join' button. Once someone lets you into the Meet, your name on Google Meet will be set to whatever you entered on the previous screen.
